Homeowner Greg Abbott was denied solar panel installation five times. The HOA's CC&Rs contained Rule 6.7 explicitly stating "No solar panels, solar collectors or other solar power apparatus shall be allowed on any lot." The proposed 23-panel system would have offset 80-90% of the home's energy use. The HOA initially cited missing survey documentation, then denied again after the survey was provided. Denials continued even after the 2022 NC Supreme Court Farwig ruling. After WCNC news coverage, the management company (Cedar Management Group) initiated a neighborhood vote to remove all solar prohibitions from the CC&Rs. This is one of the few NC HOAs with an express solar ban in its recorded declaration.
